BYPLAY 2024
Giving children a chance to dream, play, and build brighter futures.
Key Problems:
- Plastic Pollution:
- 9.2 billion tons of plastic have been produced since 1950.
- 36% of plastic is for single-use purposes.
- Plastic pollution contributes 3.4% to global greenhouse gas emissions.
- Orphanages in Gwangju, South Korea:
- Reduced support and donations following the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Emotional and psychological challenges, along with violence and bullying among orphans.
Solution:
ByPlay proposes creating basketball rims and brick toys made from recycled plastic bottle caps to distribute to orphanages. This initiative serves three main purposes:
- Promotes physical and emotional health through play.
- Recycles plastic, contributing to environmental sustainability.
- Provides expensive toys for free, reducing the financial strain on orphanages and lightening the workload of social workers.
Beneficiaries:
- Orphanages in Gwangju, a city with limited park space and declining donations, making it a high-need area for support.
Activities:
- Injection molding of recycled plastic into toys and sports equipment.
- Contacting orphanages to assess their needs and distributing these products.
Financials (2024-2026):
- Revenue comes from donations and funding, projected at:
- 1.5M KRW (2024),
- 2M KRW (2025 & 2026).
- Main costs include plastic injection, transportation, and packaging.
Vision:
ByPlay envisions creating a sustainable community that empowers orphaned children by combining play, creativity, and emotional support in a way that is both environmentally and socially impactful
